What to Expect When Kayaking for the First Time

Kayaking in Myrtle Beach

If you’ve never been kayaking before, here is a guide for what to expect on your adventure!

When you’re in Myrtle Beach, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the water. Lounge on the shore and listen to the waves roll in or head out on a charter to make the waves your highway. But if there’s one activity you truly don’t want to miss out on, it’s kayaking! Kayaking in Myrtle Beach is a great way to connect with your surroundings, get some exercise, and see the area in a whole new way.

Kayaking vs. Other Watersports

How is kayaking different than other watersports you might enjoy while in Myrtle Beach? To begin, kayaking is often confused with canoeing. The main difference between the two is the paddling technique. Canoers will paddle with a single blade that they must move from one side of the boat to the other, while kayakers have double-bladed paddles that can alternate sides simply by twisting the body.

Another common watersport in the area is paddle boarding. While kayaking involves sitting down in your vessel, paddle boarding is performed while standing up. Kayaking is typically faster than paddle boarding and doesn’t require quite as much balance!

What to Expect

When you’re planning your kayak adventure, decide if you want to paddle alone or with a friend. Crazy Sister Marina offers both single and double kayaks to suit any need. One of our staff members will take you through a safety briefing and ensure you know the basics before you head out on the water. Make sure to show up around 45 minutes early to sign all paperwork and have your safety briefing before your activity begins.

While you’re paddling, you can expect to see all kinds of beautiful attractions all around. You could spot a bird soaring overhead looking for its next meal or a dolphin jumping out of the water just feet from your kayak! Just make sure you observe from a distance to keep the animals and their habitats safe.
