What to Know About Fishing in the Rain

Singing in the rain is one thing. But what do you do when that long-awaited fishing excursion in Myrtle Beach happens to align with a rainy day? Well, we’re here to tell you that you get your fish on anyway! After all, at Crazy Sister Marina, we go out rain or shine. That said, there are a few things you should know about fishing in the rain.

3 Things You Should Know About Fishing in the Rain

So, the day has finally arrived. You had a fishing trip on your list of Myrtle Beach things to do, but Mother Nature has decided to rear her ugly head, and the rain has come. But don’t fret; fishing in the rain isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

1. Your fishing might be better in the rain

Though there is a difference between fishing and catching, the truth is that fishing in the rain might be more successful than fishing on a calm day. When the rain is coming down, fish tend to make their way to the surface, feeling safer due to the cover of the rain. This means more fish are where you are, and this also makes them more likely to take the bait.

2. With the right fishing gear, your rainy fishing trip will be plenty comfortable

As with any fishing excursion, rain or shine, it is important to dress for the weather. So if it is rainy on the day of your trip, be prepared with foul weather gear. Quality waterproof gear will make all the difference in keeping you comfortable vs. leaving you miserable and cold. With the right gear, you will stay warm and dry, and will be prepared for the duration of your time out on the water. Of all tips for fishing in the rain, this one is key for maintaining a positive mindset. But we also tell all of our guests too to be thoughtful on what to wear when fishing in Myrtle Beach. Come prepared with a long-sleeved shirt and windbreaker, non-skid boat-appropriate shoes, and sunscreen. Conditions can change when we’re out on the water, and you want to be prepared no matter what happens.

3. Be prepared for a potential reschedule of your fishing excursion

We suggest that if you have a few days in Myrtle Beach, that you schedule your fishing trip for the early part of your visit. Though we do go fishing rain or shine, there are situations where seriously inclement weather will cause us to cancel your trip, or head back to shore. So, if you schedule your trip for early on, you will have more flexibility to reschedule your head boat fishing adventure or private fishing charter later on during your trip. That said, by scheduling your trip early on, if you love your experience, you’ll have more days available for a second trip. And trust us, you may enjoy Myrtle Beach fishing so much that you’ll be ready to schedule another charter the next day.
